    Stange Emblem on 55 #125

Well I saw 55 #125 auction listing in "Old Cars Weekly" Issue 11/30/2006. I tagged it for further study. With all the talk of the Fitch 55/56 I decided to brush up on 55's and looked at it again and something struck me. The car is from the "Troby Collection", and the front emblem has some kind of embellishment. It also appears to have a small license plate. The ad states that it is NCRS Certified "Unrestored" (I assume Bow-Tie'd). Does anyone know what the front emblem embellishment is? Was this an export Corvette? Eric 3,182

I believe this car was in the Auction at Spring Carlisle this year. As I recall it was once owned by the Prince or King of Morocco or something like that. The front emblem and a few other details were modified from original. Looked like it came off of a Chevrolet or Oldsmobile passenger car with a Corvette emblem stuck in the middle. In my opinion the car was in #3+ condition.

Roy/Chuck, Thank you for the information. You would think they would advertise this as the King of Morocco’s Corvette rather then an Unrestored 55. Certainly more interesting then the “Last Sting Ray” Noland in his "American Legend" book 2 identifies 55 #239 as the first export Corvette. Maybe this is now the first. Eric 3,182

Sorry Boys...That Emblem Ain't Off No Olds.

That badge is off a 55 Pontiac, and here's a picture to prove it. Olds badges of the period didn't have the negative dihedral in the "wing" bar.

              For Reference...

This is what a 55 Oldsmobile badge looks like...Clearly not a match to the one on the subject Corvette.

                  Negative dihedral = Anhedral
