Im bead-blasting my L79 aluminum intake manifold, should I remove the shield on the underside and clean underneath it too? Or should I just stick it back on? If so, what is the best way to remove the rivets and re-install new ones?

Re: Intake shield and rivets on L79
I haven't done it myself but have read other posts that you have to make sure all the media is thoroughly removed. I also seem to recall that some prefer to remove the shield just to make sure that all the media is removed. I would suggest searching the archives.

Re: Self tapping screws tend to strip in blind hol
It's simple to just tap the holes for a small screw. I don't remember the size I used. You should still use the loctite.

Yes, remove the shield. Typically, there will be some junk lef on the inside. I would use the original style rivets or the same rivets if you can get them out without destroying them. You can re-insert them with red lock tight and it will never budge. Your choice though. Best regards, Terry- Top
