    1967 Tank Sticker

Is there any correlation between the order number on the tank sticker to the vin number of the car? I have been conducting some research on these numbers and they seem to be all over the board. My car is #2931, I am trying to figure where my # should be, most of the top section of my sticker has deteriated and is gone which included the order #.

Thanks in advance for your help and Merry Christmas to you all!

    Peter,

There is a correlation between the Ident. No on the Corvette Order Copy and the Order No. box on this sheet.

This has been an effective way to weed out fraudalent Order Copies.

The dealer order number was pre-printed on the dealer's pad of order blanks, and the VIN number wasn't assigned until the body left the Paint Shop; there is no correlation between the two.

        Re: 1967 Tank Sticker

Contrary to the earlier post, I find NO correlation between the IDENT No. and the ORDER No.

The Order No. was assigned to the Ident No. when the CORVETTE ORDER was rec'd/typed into the system.

The Order Number was carried from the document submitted by the ordering dealer to GM. I suspect that these "Order Documents" were prenumbered blanks and sent to the dealers for ordering cars.

The Ident No.s are sequential. If you have an "early" VIN # then you will have a lower IDENT No. If you have a late VIN # then you will have a higher IDENT No.
That being said... there is a correlation between the Ident No. and the future VIN # of the vehicle; However they are not necessarily directly sequential.

VIN #s are definitely sequential. Ident numbers could be out of sequence on the assy line as production planning and available parts dictated for a particuliar car "build"

Re: How about a 66 Tank Sticker

Any 66's known to have had a tank sticker applied? did all 67's receive tank sticker or is there a break point? Thanks

Neighbor down the street just inherited his father's original 66 427 (believe is an L36) and said he was going to look for the sticker. I politely shared with him I did not believe that practice began until 67. Want to make sure I was accurate.

I have heard some 66s had tank stickers, but I have never verified that?
I believe ALL 67s had Tank Stickers.

            Cheers,

            Steve

Tom - I agree with Steve W. Urban legend but so far nobody has "shown us the 66 tank sticker."

This topic has come up before so you might check the archives because if I recall some folks with late serial number 1966 cars responded indicating no evidence of a tank sticker. The original gas tank on my 66, s/n 25,305, shows no evidence that it had a tank sticker, where as my 67, s/n 1476, had one.

Be sure to let us know what he finds.

Pete, my 66 coupe #26455 had no tank sticker but when I got the car, mixed in with all the original paperwork was the original shipper copy!
