    C2 OIL PRESSURE LINE

I was trying to remove the copper line from the gage so I can remove the parking brake bracket, but the small brass nut just doesn't want to budge. Wrenches want to round over and even small vice grips tend to slip. I know it's going to get buggered up, but before I bring out the heavy artillery and maybe break something I was wandering if anyone has a good suggestion ? Thanks, Jim

    Jim,

Try a line wrench used for fuel and brake connections. It is basically a box wrench with an open slot on the end

You might want to try to install some longer bolts for the dash assemby. That way you can pull the dash out an inch or so. It will give you more room to work. Some people use short legnths of 1/4 20 threaded rod. Also loosen the bolts on the emergengy bracket it will also allow a litle ore room to work.

Consider this. Cut the oil line very close to the fitting, put a 6 point socket on the fitting and remove it. Take a tubing cutter and cut the end of the pipe off, slide a new fitting on and reinstall the line-it should be long enough to lose an inch. If after you cut the line you are still having problems with the fitting, remove the gauge pod and remove the fitting on your workbench instead of upside down in the car.

Ken, That thought crossed my mind last night, because I will need to cut it anyway now to replace the scared up nut. And I do have plenty spare line to work with. I,m approaching the "while your in there " stage; heater box and cables, glove box, radio, speakers, clock, seats all removed so working conditions not too bad. Happy Holidays to all. Jim

                Jim,

You should consider a copper plated steel line. The all copper lines tend to work harden and break. Check the archives.

I have a steel line waiting for the next "while I am in there" opportunity
