    E-Bay buyer beware

I look around E-Bay for C1 parts and find so many parts stating it's real and original , I'm not saying the seller is misrepresenting the part because I don't know them but they think it's original . Take just the two I listed here. One uses the word (so rare , you'll never see it again) 57 Corvette air cleaner . Right off the bat it's a two piece which GM never made.
Next ! Selling a 57 Corvette PG taken out of his Corvette but is a car PG -the only thing correct is the tail housing added by the last owner to mount the shifter , The shifter side (trans) linkage the safety switch rod connect to is welding to the top of the linkage , but the obvious parts is the torque Convertor , it's from a car , the Corvette has twice as many bolts around it. Cant miss that!

This is why I tell people that part and date numbers is only the start, you need to know the DESIGN of the part (LOOK).
Oh! Well I just hate seeing people sellers and buyers get in to trouble.

    Re: E-Bay buyer beware

Roy, Thanks for the thoughts. I too often get discouraged by ebay listings. I will say that sometimes that is offset by someone who sells something that is of real value/rare that they don't know about. One question though, with the one peice air cleaner how did you change the element? Get a new cleaner? Eric #3,182.

You never needed to, dip it in solvent and blow dry! Same with the two four cleaners

Don't mean to jump in for Roy, but it is a rev counter. Cool?

Roy, That is an amazing paint job. Hard to believe that it is original. Look at the gloss in the top boot. Out 54 is a 64kmi 3 owner and it looks much worse. Maybe the camera but the sportsman red looks too red.. Very beautiful though. Why change the knobs on the radio? 5605 revs, 1375.3m Assuming 2200RPM that's 2,547 Minutes of engine operation or about 2000 miles. Without getting more into the calcs I assume this car has idled a lot in it's life. I would use my 54 for a rough average rpms per mile but my tach cable broke for awhile. Anyone have a good baseline for average MPH/RPM?

Nice car though way to nice paint. the dash is beatiful. Had to have been repainted. Eric

Our 54 for comparison. (when the tach broke)

Back about 1995 our 54 was used in this Julio Iglesias video. All of the desert scenes were ours. There was a 54 in Miami that was used for the other shots. They put about 350 miles on it that day.... Made $770 bucks that day. between Phoenix/Mesa and Canyon Lake AZ.

That was great your famous or at least your 54 Corvette. Did Julio really drive it? If so it's worth twice any 54.He HE!

Well, Julio's body double drove it. When you see his hands and the back of hes head it's really a double. Most of the driving scenes were filmed with the DP (Director of Photography) drove it. All the wheel close ups etc. He was British ans smoked in it... The fuel filler neck leaked where all C1s do and I had not put a full tank of gas in it until then. Needles to say I asked him not to.... It over heated once and I was a nervous wreck the whole day.
