C2 Starter Solenoid PN & ID location

Been searching for the correct solenoid for my 1964 starter. Starter is 1107320 dated 4C14, however I replaced solenoid in the 70's. Have been looking at a lot of old starter solenoids, however I only found one with a pn stamped on the top side of the solenoid (its 111462)in a radial fashion. I do see the letter "D" at a right angle to the number, but that's all.

The JG calls for a pn - is it on the top of solenoid as the number I found???

The JG calls for "DELCO MADE IN USA REMY" on the forward face. Is that location the black "Bakelite" end ???

The "Delco..." is indeed on the bakelite end, and the part number in the JG is generally regared as for reference only, as the typical orientation is facing the starter case and thus cannot be read.

Here is a photo of a 67 original solenoid. I suspect the numbering position would be similiar to a 64.


The solenoid was painted black with a black bakelite cover. The black paint is still visible in the area under the cover. (The remainder was stripped for repainting.)


As you can see in this example, the cap does not carry "DELCO REMY" nor is it brown in color.

Notice you have an "E" above the pn, the one I have has the "D" wonder what these mean - really do not need to research that!

Now that I know where the "Delco . . ." is found that it is on the rear of my solenoid in a rond circle. Pulled it off and number is 1114458 with a date code above it of 9H13. But as you said nobody can see the number - so now all I have to do is make the brown bakelite black.
