LT-1 Hood Decal Colors ?

I have been told that where two different styles or colors of LT-1 hood decals ?
That they both had an outer and inner letter outline in black, but the space in between was either white or silver ?
Is this true ? What was the useage or application of the different inser color ?
Are these hood decals still available anywhere ?

Yes, Virginia, it is true. Early 1970 was one color and later was the other -- which is which I can't remember, and I don't have my judging manual here with me.
The decals are commonly available in reproduction. I'm pretty sure all the big catalog houses (Paragon, CC

Paragon just lists one decal.
Are the reproductions a different material versus originals ? ie "stretchy" versus an in-elastic mat'l ?

From the '70-72 TIM & Judging Guide "Early 1970s up to s/n 9590 have a silver background outlined in black. All other LT1s have a white background outlined in black".

Both styles were available in reproduction some time ago. I think that I have a set of each in my desk drawer. I will look after Christmas

The strange part is that the part number never changed----it was GM #3962692 right through it all. So, there must have been a revision to the specs during 1970 OR the first ones were manufactured incorrectly.

I came across some NOS ones that were bought in 1980 under P/N 3962692 and they are SILVER.
Strange that they were supplying / still had silver ones in stock after they had switched to white ?!

Only the silver ones were available for SERVICE from Chevrolet. The guy who made the stripe stencil kits made the white ones in reproduction. At one time, when the stencil kits first came out, all the catalog houses listed both styles.
