    69 corvette overhaul manual

I'm looking for a 69 overhaul manual and I'm a little confused as to what and where to get one. I thought it was reproduced but I don't see it in the on-line store so where would be the place to get one...ebay?

I also noticed that the 70 overhaul manual has the 69 corvette in it. Would this be the same info the the 69 overhaul manual has. If so then I guess I could pick up either year...or should I stick with the 69 manual instead?

Any idea why the 70 manual would have the 69 corvette in it?

    Thanks.

    Re: 69 corvette overhaul manual

    Greg:

At first I thought the Bizzoco book (1969 Stingray Guidebook)was the answer than realized you're asking about the Chevrolet Passenger Car Overhaul Manual for 69 (I think).

Chevrolet called it a Chassis Overhaul Manual that served as a supplement to the Chassis Service Manual (mechanical).

During these years, Chevrolet manuals serviced most makes of passenger cars therefore you will not find a "Corvette" manual until the late 70's.

Besides eBay, any autmotive swap meet or numerous literature collectors advertise in Hemmings.

        Re: 69 corvette overhaul manual

Since the '69 Corvete model year was extended in production through 12/31/69, the '70 Corvette missed being included in the 1970 Chassis Service Manual and Chassis Overhaul Manual. A supplement was published when the '70 Corvette made its debut describing the differences between 1969 and 1970 cars.

Check with Helm, Inc. for manuals not included in the NCRS merchandise library. Helm is out of Detroit and is a central clearing house for automotive publications (do a Google search to find Helm).

In the era your car was built, there were three publications of interest to support maintenance: (1) Chassis Service Manual, (2) Chassis Overhaul Manual and (2) Fisher Body Manual. The first covers most of the minor repair items. The second covers major rebuild tasks. The third deals specifically with body parts and body electric issues.

From The Cover: "1970 Chassis Overhaul Manual..."

"Covering Chevrolet, Chevelle, Monte Carlo, Nova, Series 10-60 Chevrolet Trucks, and the 1969 Corvette."

Section Index: (1) Air conditioning compressor, (3) 4-Wheel drive front axle differential, (4) Rear axle differential carrier, (5) Power brake cylinder, (6) Engine, (6K) Water pump, (6M) Carburetors, (6Y) Starting motor solenoid and Delcotron, (7) Transmission and clutch, 4-Wheel drive transfer case, (9) Steering gear, power steering pump and control valve.

I doubt any information given on any of these components would have changed materially from the 1969 overhaul manual.

Re: From The Cover: "1970 Chassis Overhaul Manual.

            Thanks guys,

I could have picked up the 69 Chassis Overhaul Manual in Pomona a couple weeks back for $40 but passed because it was an original and thought I would just get a repro for $25 instead... Now I see that I should have picked it up after looking on ebay. I also take it that this manual isn't reproduced yet either.

I'll check out Helm, Hemmings and some others but might just get one from ebay now that I'm sure of what I'm looking for.

              reprinted Chassis Manuals

Unfortunately, Greg, "reproduction" in the context of factory manuals has no precise meaning.

The first run manuals from Helm Inc. -- the manual manufacturer -- had nice clear, high-contrast photo illustrations. As time and technology moved on they began to use photo copy machines to "print" the manuals and the illustrations became muddy and low-contrast. The manuals were still produced by the original supplier -- Helm Inc. -- should they be called reproductions? I don't know, but they are definitely second quality.

If someone else is making them I hope they use first run manuals as their base and use higher quality production equipment.

I would suggest whether the manual is new or used is less important than if it is first run or later production as determined by the clarity of the photo illustrations. Someone else’s evaluation may be based more on the content of the text than the quality of the photo illustrations, however.

Would this work? Looks like the original one I have. This was found through a Google search for "automotive literature" and "Helm".

Note that the '69 is printed to order. Wonder if it is a copy or what?
