Re: My new 06
Very nice, but the asking is high...I hope you got a good deal out of them. Two things:
(1) When you inspect it in person, check for lift damage to the underside of the rocker panels. Unless lifting pads are installed in the shipping slots, fore and aft, the rocker panel fiberglass will be damaged by lifting the car. Almost every car is damaged; mine was damaged during the PDI after I WARNED them of the problem. (Idiots!) BMW lift pads work the best, virtually invisible, and remain installed ready for use.
(2) While getting used to the car, you might go slow on "seeing what she'll do" until you are accustomed to the power and torque. Kick that A6 down into first gear from low speed, particularly on cold tires, and you could be startled by the exciting ride. Active Handling will seem impotent against the squirrely-ness. Owners have taken their Corvettes in for minor service only to later learn that their car had been totaled by dealer's mechanics during a "test drive".- Top

Re: My new 06 :chuck"
I probably should explain what I mean by "lift damage". If the rocker panels are damaged, it will be on the flat portion of the fiberglass that extends under the car to cover frame rail except for the cut-outs around the tie-down slots. You may see damage on one or both sides, near the front and/or rear tie-down slot positions.
Dealer technicians damage the fiberglass by postioning the lift arms ON THE FIBERGLASS. The fiberglass is not intended to carry the weight of the car and stands about 1/8"-3/16" off the frame rail...when the car is lifted the fiberglass is deformed and crushed against the frame rail.
There are some special tool "lifting pucks" (Kent-Moore?) that are supposed to be installed by the mechanic in the tie-down slots before the lift arms are positioned. The "pucks" are thick enough to extend down below the fiberglass...the lift arms contact the "pucks" and don't touch the fiberglass.
Repair is best done by laminating reinforcing mesh and Lord-Fusor adhesive on the existing rocker panel rather than attempting replacement. This is one of those cases where you can do a lot of patching before you replace, and replace only as a last resort. The rocker panels are the first body panel bonded to the C6 chassis; replacement of the rocker panels is a very expensive and time consuming proposition.- Top
