Steel 1/4" cold roll stock in the USA only varies +/- .016". It was most often produced at the lower end of tolerance. And finer grades are even closer tolerance.
Re: Uhhhhhh, guess it'd be too much to ask if this
Hello; All 1963 corvette had the thick bumper brackets front and rear. The metal actually measured .230" , the front lower brackets wer all the same for 63-67 and measured .100" sometime in early 64 the brackets were reduced in thickness to .187" or 3/16" in thickness. The paint finish was semi-gloss black on all the brackets 63-67. Thanks, Andy Cannizzo

That's how it was supposed to work. However, it's possible that there may have been a slight overlap one way or the other. The 63 MY may have used some of the new thin brackets/braces right at the end of prod., or the thick brackets may have spilled over to some of the new 64's.
I know the AIM's don't show this but with a part change that was not a critical change for safety reasons or assemby problems, the overlap often occured. Not likely more than a few days production either way though.
