    More 63 Trivia

Since I have been seeing some new '63 questions for a change I though I would test the waters with one.
Did you all know that the 63 alternator brace-the long curved one- is much thinner than say the 64 up one? The 63's are really rare since a lot didn't survive since they bent easy. Dr. Mike McCagh pointed this out to me last spring. My 63 FI car has the original brace. Has a big "V" on it. Easy way to spot a repro or later style is to look for the "V". Also you will notice that it's is noticeably thinner. Don't need a mic to spot it. When I was looking at these braces at the ton of 63 fuel cars at the Marlborough regional I noticed that most had the thicker ones on.
Well have to go finish my Christmas shopping. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. You too RJ and MH. Thanks for the good times on the DB. In case you in the DB world don't know RJ, MH, And JD are best of friends. When you see us on the same post you best skip on by as we are at it again.

I'd have to admit knowing it.

Only because I bought one for a hot rod project I was working on and it fit perfect. It did break in the adjustment slot. I welded it up and am still using it today.

Were the engines shipped with the brakets attached? Is that why so many are bent?

        Thanks John !

Every time I think I've got my car dialed in, I read stuff like this. Looks like mine's got the fat one with no V !! Thanks for the trivia ! One of these days I'll have it right !!

          Re: More 63 Trivia

HI Tom, If you can't find an original maybe one of our famours DB guys will email you with a tip. He takes a thick one and takes it and haves it milled down so that it's a thin one. Don't quote me but if I recall they are about .207-.208 thick. Maybe someone can verify this thickness. If not let me know. My '63 is all covered up with two covers to keep warm and has some good plane fuel in it so it can sit for a while. John

              Rob -

Nope, that adjuster bracket was installed at St. Louis after 1956.

Not only are they thinner, but as I recall, they also "flare out" up near the adjustment slot, i.e., they're "wider" in that area. Chuck

Chuck, So the flare out area so to speak would prevent the boys from "thinning" out the thicker ones. CC would spot the thinner cheater ones probably. Take care, John
