The key fob has to be within a few feet of the car in order to start the car. There is a rocker switch on the dash that is pushed to start and turn off the car. So in theory you don't have to take the key fob out of your pocket or if you happen to carry a purse, briefcase, etc.

          I hate those things.

My Dad's T*y*ta has that too, and I can't ever remember where I put the Fob. My whole routine changes when I can't just turn the thing off and pocket the key so I don't forget where it is.

          Bring back the key!

            Your Whole Routine Changes??...

OK, Patrick, you have to help me here...How is putting a FOB in your pocket, and putting a key in your pocket any different? The only difference is you don't have to take the FOB out of your pocket to unlock the door and start the car.

Those wiley engineers at GM have even put a key loop on one end of the FOB so you can put on that useless key (except in some emergencies, like the FOB battery dying). You can play like you're taking it out to unlock the door, and then pocket it again after the car is started.

Another thing that takes getting used to is that the driver is no longer an active player in start-up process. You do not press and hold the button until the engine starts...You simply push the lighted green button once; after that, all the relays latch in and the PCM decides the start sequence and how long cranking is going to last before the start sequence is terminated as unsuccessful.

Like Clem said, once you use a FOB routinely, you get used to the decadent convenience and expect all cars to unlock when you walk up.

Reminds me of Roy Rogers when he wanted to go for a ride on Trigger. Just whistle and yer new C6 runs over and picks you up. Probably already knows where you want to go.

Sure. Can't remember if I've put that darn thing in my pockeet, on the center console, in my jacket, or where the heck it is. Takes me 5 minutes to find the stupid thing.

Every time I get in and out of my truck, which still has a real key, the keys go into my pocket. Immediately. Can't do that with that POS fob because I don't have to move it. I just have to remember where that thing is!
