Hello, Enjoy the knowledge you all share. My question is: How do you know how many shims to put between the body and the frame and is there a procedure for this process. I did not take the body off the frame or I would have marked the old ones. But here I am now, needing to put the body back on and sure could use some advice.

Re: 60 Body Shims
Andy, this is not really that hard a task, just a little time consuming. I would start with a nothing but the fiber shims and one steel shim first at each location then set the body down on the mounts. Now crawl under the car and check clearance at all mounts and see how many shims will slide in where there is a gap. At this point you should have a body which is bearing on shims at all locations. Now is a good time to install the rubber pads which sit on the frame and help support the floor pan, if they wont go in then increase the # of shims at each location until the pads are just snug. Don't worry if you cant get the body to bear snugly on all rubber pads as the floor pan on C1's are pretty un even. I would reccomend glueing the pads to the proper place on the frame with black silicone so they wont move and the black wont show if you are careful - the originals tended to stick to the fresh asphalt based paint and would not move arround. After you hang the doors you will have to adjust the shims at the rear crossmember to get the gap uniform top to bottom, add more shims to close the gap at the top. You will probably find that the rear has sagged quite a bit if the body has been sitting on a dolly for a long time as most dollies do not support at the rear crossmember. If you run into any problems please don't hesitate to e-mail me. John Mc Graw- Top
