    C2 SB Coil question.....

Has anyone ever seen or heard of an original ignition coil that has the "202" and "12V" oriented 90 degrees clockwise from the Delco-Remy embossed on the Baklite top? The "202" and "12V" is oriented directly under the positive terminal.

I believe that this coil is the original coil that came from the factory, but I have checked pictures and the discussion board archives and find no reference to this style of orientation.

Installing the coil with the terminals oriented as all of the Nolan Adams pictures show, the "202" and "12V" will be hidden behind the coil bracket.

That's about the way you usually find them.

Yes, the 202 and the 12V are frequently behind the band of the coil bracket.

          Bill:

Most of the pictures that are available for reference show the coil terminals oriented 90 degrees to the center line of the engine...in other words, as you face the engine the (-) terminal will be on the left and the (+) terminal will be on the right. And the embossed "202 12V) will be facing forward.

The coil in question if installed with the terminals oriented as above will have the "202 12V" facing 90 degrees to the left.

Have you ever seen this configuration? And is this an acceptable coil for NCRS judging?

          Thanks,

          Dwight

mine is exactly as you have described, with the 202 toward the terminal side, I have examples of the '63-63 087 coil in both configurations. Mine has been in the car for at least 20+ years now.

Emboss orientation mini survey -- my collection

Dwight -- just checked 8 coils [4 points, 4 transistor ign] and most are as you describe (facing engine from driver seat) neg. terminal on left, +ve on right; emboss on can faces forward (or in some cases center of emboss numbers group oriented slightly to the left of forward by, say, 5 degrees). However, no 202 coils in my sample.

One exception is on my three "207" TI coils (2 are NOS -- prior to 1980). Emboss faces firewall with the same terminal orientation.

On the other hand, my original "210" TI coil emboss faces forward.
