C1 Brake Drums

I pulled the drums on my '61 and will have them turned. While I have them out I would like to put some finish on them not only for appearance but also for preservation. In the archives, I noted unpainted, semi-gloss black and gloss black all stated as correct. Which is it? I see that Eastwood sells a Brake Drum Coating that can be sprayed right over bare metal. Have any of you used this product?

They came from the factory un-painted, I have sprayed mine with cast iron grey to preserve them and it has worked well both in judging and for preservation

I have used the Eastwood product for brake drums and it worked quite well. As with any other paint job make sure drums are really clean before applying their product.

I'm far from a C1 expert but I'm pretty sure your drums were originally coated with chassis black, a semi gloss/flat gooey coating. Most semi gloss/flat paints will give aprox the same apperance.

Most of the entire spindle/knuckle, backing plate and drum would have been coated in this way.
