I pulled the drums on my '61 and will have them turned. While I have them out I would like to put some finish on them not only for appearance but also for preservation. In the archives, I noted unpainted, semi-gloss black and gloss black all stated as correct. Which is it? I see that Eastwood sells a Brake Drum Coating that can be sprayed right over bare metal. Have any of you used this product?

I'm far from a C1 expert but I'm pretty sure your drums were originally coated with chassis black, a semi gloss/flat gooey coating. Most semi gloss/flat paints will give aprox the same apperance.
Most of the entire spindle/knuckle, backing plate and drum would have been coated in this way.- Top
