Re: If you made $5 an hour in '65 around here,

I stand corrected. My wife, fiance at that time, informed me that I made the outstanding sum of $4200 per year at approx $2.10 an hour. Wow, I really was poor, good thing I married the daughter of a Dentist.

hell fire we wanted more tail lights, 2 on each

side were not enough. we added 1 more to each side and put in sequential turn signals on the mid years. my first new corvette 1959 cost,$4537, more than i made that year. i had paid off all my other cars so it was not too bad a hit.i traded in a 59 impala and the mrs clem to be 55 chevy for the corvette and a 49 chevy club coupe because we needed 2 cars. we owned $1800 after it was all said and done. that was the year we were married and we also bought a new house. mrs clem also worked back then but she even made less than i did.

That sounds familiar Clem. We traded in "her" 61 Falcon plus what ever cash I could come up with. The rest was payments. I still had my 57 F.I. Chev but couldn't afford insurance for both cars. My drivers license was suspended (again) for 3 months so she got to drive the Corvette to work.

I always wanted "mag wheels" and headman headers but never had the money so the car remained stock all the time I had it.

mrs clem got to drive the new corvette because

i was still living at home and my mother would have killed me for buying a new corvette while i was having a house built. i had wrecked the 59 impala and the 49 chevy club coupe was a loaner while the dealer fixed the impala. my mother kept asking where is your car and i kept stalling her till the wedding day. we held out reception in our new house and my best man brought the corvette to the house when we were ready to leave and my mother said "who's car is that"? i said "it is ours mother" and we left for the honeymoon.

That's funny. Seems like most guys that age had to pull something to convince their partnts that they needed a nearly $5000 car that only held two people and didn't even have a trunk. My parents thought I had lost my mind.

Re: i figured once you got married you did not

We were married about 6 months after I bought the Corvette but I'm pretty sure we made a baby in it. Then I had house payments, car payments and baby payments. A year later, the Corvette was history.

we did not have any kids for 7 years so we

got most of the payments out of the way EXCEPT the corvette payments. they are still with us. can't seem to get away from them because corvettes are like aids you can never get it out of your blood.

Yup, I've been addicted to these cars for over four decades. I think you have me beat though.

Louis - hazard lights first became available in 66 (as RPO V74) and were not part of the comfort and convenience group RPO Z01 in 65 (and BU lamps alone only available in 63 and 64 as RPO T86, no Z01 in 63-64).

When I started as a Production Foreman at Willow Run in late '64, my salary was a princely $675 a month as a "member of Management"; that's about four bucks per hour; my hourly folks were making around three or so.
