Bill, I just bought a gallon of Velocity Yellow PPG base coat-$388.00! Add another $185.00 for the clear.

Kenny,,, A body shop that I respect here in Detroit recently told me there would be App. $4000 in materials to do a white with black stripes 1969 Camaro. Labor was $10000. Car is a straight California "Z". I didnt have anywhere near that in the budget. Owner of the car thought I was kidding him........Bill S

When I was still working (2001), we (Chrysler) bought MILLIONS of gallons of paint from PPG and BASF, and we were paying around $300/gallon for reds and over $110 for 2K clear - in 520-gallon stainless steel tote-tanks. Paint ain't cheap!

OK $300.00 a gallon paint and $110.00 for clear =+ $410.00 or lets make it 1K , so 10K to 15K Labor I should have been a painter!!

                Paul,

I'm from Ottawa. Where did you have that paint job done--was it at Prescott or somewhere near here?

                Looks great, by the way!

                Thanks,

Roy, about 12-15 years ago I decided to keep track of every piece of sandpaper, primer, paint, clear, thinner, and anything else that was related to painting the car. White car. My COST was over $1,800 in materials alone. Paint has probably trippled in price since then.
