    1966 window sticker: Different prices

I have seen a few different '66 window stickers that have different prices for the options along with different base prices. I also notice that there was a foot note printed at the bottom of the sticker saying something like: "Based on reduced tax rate effective Jan 1966 or March 1966"
Can someone shed some light on these prices? Is there a table or a list that I can see that explains these "new" prices and when they took effect?
Was this for all the Corvettes, or just some that went to a certain part of the country or state?

Back in that era there was a federal excise tax on cars (and tires) of something like 3 percent IIRC. They were both eliminated, but I'm not sure if both ended at the same time.

That's probably the last time a tax was actually eliminated that didn't have a "sunset clause" in the original legislation like the recent "luxury tax".

    Count your blessings...

The FET was not separately itemized in car prices (window stickers), but if you bought tires, it was a separately itemized charge on the invoice.

        Ken,
I still have copies of the original window sticker of a 66 I sold some years ago.
It says on the bottom: "BASED ON REDUCED EXCISE TAX RATE EFFECTIVE JAN.1, 1966"
I have noticed over the years the prices on this sticker many times don't match other published lists or other stickers. Don't know where there is a table or list to explain when it happened but that might help narrow it down some.
The car was #14433 and was delivered to Kansas City MO.

Keep in mind that prices, especially base prices for the model, could change during the model year. During some model years, prices changed several times.

Dave, what is the dealer name & # on the 66 window sticker? The zone # should be 05.

                Ken:

There is an article by Curt Gifford entitled "1959-67 Window Stickers" in the Winter 96 edition of the Restorer that discusses the effect of changes in excise tax on the prices appearing on window stickers of 66 Corvettes throughout the model year.
