1965 convertible. Interior corner windshield molding. Does the top edge of the interior corner molding slip under the exterior corner molding top edge? I think it does, but before I scratch any molding I need to know. The driver's side fit very nice underneath like I thought it should. The fit of the passenger side does not want to go underneath. I may have to stand on my head to get it right. Has anyone else had difficulty getting this corner to slip underneath? These are the original moldings. Areba polished and flash chromed them for me. It would be a shame to scratch them. Thanks for your time DG

Re: C2 windshield molding??
Dick,
sorry, I'm not the expert to reply to your question. In fact, I would like someone to post windshield trim removal/restoration 101 for Dummies. My original 65 roadster windshied has stone chips and i would like to replace it. The trim needs polished out as well. I know I can order the correct windshield with proper LOF information, and I have seen some information about polishing out the trim.
However, the thought of removing the trim is a little daunting to a two-left hand all thumbs Corvette owner. I have an article about removing the dash cluster that is so definitive and specific I think even I will be able to tackle the replacement of the bulbs and installation of the correct 80# oil pressure gauge for my 365 HP small block.
I am hoping someone either has, or will, take the time to forward a very detailed step by step directional article on this.. Perhaps it is removal for Dummies and such a simple process that it is just start with brute strength and awkwardness full speed ahead damn the torpedoes ! ?
I looked in the archives and didn't find anything. Perhaps a past or future article for Corvette Restorer ?

Re: C2 windshield molding??
Noel As far as removing windshield trim, you are correct. The potential to scratch paint is high. One thing that is on your side if you damage/scratch any of the old trim, you're going to send it out for polishing, dent removal anyway. When it comes back all perfect is when the beads of sweat on the old forehead begin to form, when it comes time to reinstall. Go to your local auto paint store and buy a trim removal tool. It is used to slip between the glass weatherstrip and trim used to pull up on the clips which are holding onto the trim. Remove interior side post pieces first. Second, remove interior header piece. Third, remove exterior side post pieces. Fourth the exterior header. Fith. the real bugger, the forward lower exterior reveal. Send out your trim for polish. Order and install new trim clips for the forward reveal. Install new windshield with new weatherstrip. Order new fasteners/clipsand screws that you want to replace from the old removed. Re: C2 windshield molding??
I would replace all trim clips with new ones. My clips looked good but there 40 years old. I changed a few clips and then installed the windshield. When installing the trim one clip snap in half. Had to remove the windshield and redo. I won't make that mistake again.- Top

Re: C2 windshield molding??
Noel,
The sequence that Dick gave you is the way I did it. However, when it came time to do the lower front reveal, I asked my neighbor, who owns two auto glass shops, for help. I have a couple photos of him doing the work in my garage. He used a tool with a small curved end to hold the trim up or back while using this special tool to carefully pop the trim off the clips. I can email the photos to you. Also, I agree that you should get all new clips and screws. LICS has them.

Repro Clips?
I was told by a respected friend who has been restoring Corvettes for a long time, that there is a difference between the repro clips and the original clips. He told me that some of the repro clips don't fit properly. Anyone else heard of this? Anyone know of a source for clips that they know fit properly?- Top
