I HAVE A 1962, 300 HP, POWERGLIDE I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WERE USED ON THIS APPLICATION, THE NCRS BOOK SAYS CAST# 901 FOR LH & 902 FOR RH, I HAVE ALSO RESEARCHED IN THE CHEVY PARTS BOOKS THEY ALSO COME UP WITH THESE NUMBERS EXCEPT FOR POWERGLIDE, SHOULD THEY BE CAST# 965 FOR LH & 556 FOR RH THESE ARE THE 250 HP MANIFOLDS IS THIS CORRECT, AND IS IT BECAUSE IT IS A POWERGLIDE? ALSO DID THIS APPLICATION USE A CROSSOVER PIPE & WAS IT 2" OR 21/2". I DON'T CARE WHAT SET UP IS USED I JUST WANT IT CORRECT.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.
Mick--
Please turn off the caps--that's shouting, and we prefer that people don't shout.
62 300HP cars had 901 and 902 manifolds. I've owned two of them, and they were both original cars.
Mick I have a '62,300 hp,powerglide car also. I took my original manifolds off because of excessive pitting(not really that bad)installed GM replacements with same part # but different casting characteristics, cost me four points for the education at San Antonio. My car has crossover pipe and 2 1/2" pipes. Good luck.
Yes, and yes. I should have mentioned those two were powerglide--I've had 28 62's in all. 300HP cars used crossovers--that's the way they were built--no optional engine in 62 was without crossover.
I agree with Mike and Terry; a 1962 300 hp engine, with or without Powerglide, used the GM casting #3797901 and 3797902 exhaust manifolds. These are 2-1/2" outlet manifolds.
What generates the confusion here is that things changed for 1963-65. For 63-65, the 300 hp (L75) engine with manual transmission used the same manifolds as described above. However, for 300 hp (L-75) engine with Powerglide used different manifolds with 2" outlet size.
