    C2 Headlights

In the process of having some paint work done on the front end of my '64, I removed the two headlight motors, cleaned them, replaced the worn gears and re-packed them with grease. After re-instaling them, I find that both lights do not flip up together - one is much slower than the other. Sometimes one light will not raise at all (both worked pretty well until I messed with them....) Did I miss a step in the process? Could i have a bad headlight switch? I have dis-assembled the switch and checked the contact points - they appear to be okay.....

    Any thoughts are welcomed....

I think there is an endplay adjustment on the motor / gearbox. You may be able to adjust the drag on the motor to get both to run at the same speed. How much difference in the open and close time between the 2 lights?

Check the tightness on the two bolts that hold the motor on the housing. If they get too tight they'll really slow down the motor. Try reducing the bolt torque on the slow one. You can do it while the motor is running.

        Garry,

You might also check the ground wire to the slow motor to make sure that it's making good electrical contact. As I recall, it fastens to the side of the motor case with a star washer and short machine screw.

        Good luck,
