    Side glass

    Hi all

I just had my convertible top installed for the first time on my 1962. When I picked up the car the side windows were up.I took it home and rolled down the windows. When I rolled the windows up, they did not go up right and caught the rubber. When I opened the door, they rolled up ok. My question is.Are the windows supposed to roll up and down ok and seal when the door is closed or do you have to open the door first, roll up the glass then close it. I'm not sure if the weather strip piece is on right. How do yours work?

    Thanks...John

Chevrolet specified that first you fit the windows to the hardtop, (if so equipped) and then fit the soft top to the windows. Great in theory--but many 62's I've had worked similar to yours--sounds like the top needs to be fitted to the windows, which means loosening the two chrome phillips head screws on the side rail of the top above the window and trying to lengthen the distance from door post to the weatherstripping on the top at the back of the window. Adjustment of the top at the two brackets on each side at the rear may need to be done also. It's not a science--it's trial and error.
    Good luck.
    Mike

John I just put a new soft top on my '62(no hard top to help with adjustment) Adjusted top to windows including side adj. that Mike described. When I rolled up windows it tried to bind dead on w/s on both sides instead of a little outside after alot of frustration.I rolled the windows up shut the doors and left it closed up.A couple of days later they worked fine. Maybe the pressure on the W/S relaxed it a little. Good luck.

        Thanks Terry and Mike

The windows seem to fit ok, it's just that the piece of rubber weather strip on the convertible top that contacts the side edge of the window that seems to act like a channel gets caught between the window when I roll up the window with the door closed. I guess i'll have to do some adjustments. Also, which is the proper way to latch and unlatch the top? Front first then rear or rear first?

        Thanks for your help...John

Latch the rear first--then the front.

Just to make sure I wasn't leading you down the wrong road I checked my windows today. Passenger door tried to bind ever so slightly, rubbed a little dielectric grease on the w/s works perfect. If you've never used die. grease before it works wonders on rubber thats dry. Have fun.
