    1969 Repair manual / guide

I have a 1969 L46 non-AC coupe that I would like to start to restore a little at a time. The first order of business that I need to address is to replace the heater core and get the heater back up an running.
In everyone's opinion, what is the best resource to clearly illustrate the required steps to do such repairs? I have already purchased an assembly manual for the car and, I'm sorry but, the illustrations leave much to be desired if you are supposed to use that thing as a guide.

I am interested in trying to do as many of these projects myself as possible to reduce costs and also to enjoy the satisfaction of being able to say that I did "X" myself.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Dave-----

I don't know of a good pictorial guide to performing the heater core R&R. I'll bet that one or more of the Corvette magazines has done such an article over the years (and, I probably have the issue(s) here, but I don't know which one(s) it is). Anyway, the first time I did this job (which was a LONG time ago), I followed the text instructions in the 1969 Chevrolet Service Manual and it went very well.

THanks Joe; I'll be sure to purchase the Service Manual. I had one of these for my 1968 Camaro and found it useful.

The Service Manual will help with words and maybe a few illustrations, but in the end (unless there is an on-line step by step or a magazine story can be found) the AIM will help you more than you might at first think. It will show you in the illustrations where the fasteners are that you have to remove in order to the heater core. No it is not laid out in a way that you can look up the heater core and find itemized what is to be removed -- it was produced to tell the factory workers how to put the car together. But, when used in conjunction with the Service Manual, it does show which screws and nuts and bolts have to come out to remove a given part.
Seems to me there was a thread on this very subject -- heater core removal from an early C3 -- within the last several months on this board. It had, as I remember, some photos and suggestions in the text.

Corvette Forum has a FAQ section that should have just what you want to change a heater core. They have lots of pictures on how to do Corvette Repair.

              Dave,

I think this will at least give you an idea of what's involved.

              Good luck!

                Don,

That is awesome, thanks very much. Looking at the document, it looks as if this is a very involved repair. Does anyone have an estimate on how long it should take a novice to make this repair?
I already have a new heater core, seal kit and replacement hoses. Can anyone think of anything else that I might need before I jump in on this thing?
