I am just completing a rear brake job on a '64 (manual brakes) and have a few questions.
1. Is it common to use loctite on the pivot pin or the bolts that hold the wheel cylinder? There were signs of a red residue on the threads and under the heads of the bolts and I can't figure what it is. No mention of loctite or any other lubricant, antiseize compound, etc. in the shop manual.
2. The shoes are held against the backing plate by springs. In the new hardware kit, one is clearly harder to compress than the other. The old ones it is difficult to tell the difference. It seems to me the harder spring to compress should go on the rear shoe (the one that the adjuster plate attaches to).
Thanks. Happy New Year!!!!
