Front License Plate on 67 air/powerglide car

Best I can tell the AIM does not show how the license plate is to be attached to the unique bracket used on a 67 with C60 and M35. The judging manual states "license plate bolts" are used and threaded into the bracket. My bracket has probably 1/4" holes, but they are not threaded. The holes are larger than the standard license plate screws.

Anyone here aware of what is correct for this application?

i had a 67 390 c-60 powerglide coupe and its license plate bracket had the typical white nylon cinch nuts that inserted into the bracket. then the routine license plate fasteners threaded into the plastic nuts. Long island ought to have what you need. mike

I believe that the original anchor nuts were of GM #3877254. These are white nylon which snap into the square holes on the license plate bracket.

The GM #3877254 were discontinued more than 20 years ago and replaced by GM #559547. The latter are still available for about a buck-and-a-half. I expect that many dealers will have these in stock since they're widely used. I'm not sure that these will be 100% correct, but I think that they're very close to the originals and they'll definitely be 100% functional.

Also, Dr. Rebuild sells a complete kit with all the nuts and screws.

Well, all this is interesting because the bracket on my car has two round holes (about 1/4" dia) and does not have the square holes typically seen on the more common center mounted bracket. The AIM calls out the rubber bumper for the bracket and my bracket has that. The AIM does not list the nylon nuts or any screws, best I can tell.

          Gary-----

The nylon nuts and screws were part of a "license plate installation kit" that was supplied in a small manila envelope inside the car. However, the only kit that I can find that was supplied for all 1967 Corvettes was kit GM #3875313. This kit was never a SERVICE-available item, but, as far as I know, it contained the GM #3877254 "square" nylon nuts. I know of no other kit that was supplied with 67 Corvettes.

As I recall, the front license bracket for your application was kind of a "triangular" configuration with a bottom crossmember and slanted braces above. It may be that the license plate screws for this bracket were designed to thread directly into the bracket rather than into nylon push nuts. Are there any likely holes in the bracket which could be used for self-tapping screws that might retain the license plate?

Looks like another A.I.M. oversight - the illustration of the bracket even shows two round holes, but the Miscellaneous Shipping List only shows one license plate attaching unit (#3875313) for all cars, which had the plastic nuts designed for square holes.
