63-64 Judging Guide Question; seat belts

    In the 3rd edition of the 63-64 Judging Guide, page 40, SEAT BELTS, it states that;

"1964 - THE BUCKLES ARE OF THE PULL RELEASE DESIGN AND ARE COLOR COORDINATED TO THE CARPET".

This may be the case for most interior colors but at least one color, white, is not color coordinated to the carpet. The seat belts and buckle color matches the color of the seats, which would be white in this case. Is this correct?

don't ever recall seeing a set of white belts. if they existed and i owned said vette, those white puppies would be grease-black in a couple of months. i'd guess the belts ought to have been the same color as the carpets. mike

MIchael, I notice that my good friend always says 3rd edition. Why don't you have the 4th edition. Not being determental just wondering. Me thinks you running with the utter swamp guy too much. The one who puts one buck worth of gas in his car at a time. Jr.

I refer to the 3rd edition because that's what I have. I don't think the 4th edition is much different, at least on the items that I post. However, it's possible that it is and that's why I always mention the fact that the info is from the 3rd edition. If the 4th edition is different, I'm sure someone will inform me.

I would have to agree with Mike M. The belts should match the color of the carper if the seats, door panels, etc. are white in color.

            James,
My red carpet/white vinyl seats & door panels '64 has white seat belts. I changed them from red to white to agree with something I read and the white belts have never had a deduct at Regional/National Flight Judging.

Actually my seat belts are pink in color in places after getting caught in a rain storm (picture a cow and a flat rock) driving home from the Rocky Mountain Chapter Regional a couple of years ago. New red carpet + new white seat belts + a leaky '64 = a mess.

            Best regards,
            Charlie

There are two reasons why I know absolutely positively for sure that 64 Corvettes with white interior had white belts and white buckles. One, the parts book clearly states the color white for 64. The reason that I know it actually occured, though, is the fact that the 64 coupe that I bought brand new in early 1964 had white interior with white belts/buckles.

                Mike,
I agree. My daytona blue coupe with blue/white interior had white belts when original. Actually, it still does even though a friend that owns it now has pretty much restored it.

                  Michael.

The only difference in the fourth edition in this case, is that the seat belt buckle information appears on page 31 instead of on page 40, like the 3rd edition. Same wording in edition 4.

                    Charlie,

Just a thought, but you might remove the belts from your car and go after those pink stains with some of that OxyClean stuff. Availible at your local supermarket on the laundry detergent aisle. I think it will remove the pinkish stains with no harm to the belt material.

My Mar64 has the black/white interia option. The door panel (upper),seats and seat belts are all white. Documented car to spring 66, purchased Aug 67.

Thanks Tracy. I previously turned this task over to She Who Must Be Obeyed and nothing in our arsenal of cleaners worked. I'll give OxyClean a try.
