Notice the scoops in front of the rear tires,factory halibrands and factory shortened steering column.. Purchased new at Dick Doane Chevrolet..Raceway Enterprises.. Dundee, Ill. in 1956. Four were delivered to Dick Doane.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm, OK, so what prompted this promise, did I miss something earlier?

Also, if these were "factory" built cars, then why was John Neas' SR1 not allowed to be judged?

Tom..In an earlier post ..I said I would share the picture of a genuine factory delivered 1956 SR1 if I could find the picture in my files.

The car pictured was purchased by Frank Carr Sr.

Frank a man of means personally told me that he was having his 1954 Corvette serviced at Dick Doane Chevrolet when Dick Doane said hey Frank come in the back and see what was just delivered from St.Louis. ( 4 brand new SR1's ).

Dick Doane Chevrolet Raceway Enterprises was one of the select dealers that was directly involved with the developing Chevrolet racing program. Rush Chevrolet in Gardena, Ca. and Don Allen in Miami were two others.

Art Armstrong can verify from engineering workorders that Corvettes were ordered from St.Louis and shipped special to Dick Doane, Rush and Don Allen Chevrolet.

Joe I don't know what you mean by "were ordered from St.Louis". All vehicles were ordered THRU the Chevrolet Central Office system, be it from a dealer, Engineering WO, COPO, or where ever.

"Dick Doane, Rush and Don Allen Chevrolet"..........were not the only places that special Corvettes were shipped directly to from the assembly plant. They were shipped to many dealers and even to individuals houses.

Art..agreed!!!...my referance was meant to convey..special cars ordered with specific instructions on where they were to be delivered..as detailed on the work order which you can verify...ie: ship to: Tech Center, ship to Smokey Yunick, ship to SEDCO, ship to Rush Chevrolet etc..

Also.. I mentioned Doane, Rush and Don Allen as key Chevrolet race program participants but did not mean to suggest they were the only participating dealers. I offer their names for anyone today who may become interested in doing research..as these three were an integral part of the racing program.

A relatively unknown to most Corvette people today was Swanson racing in Harlan, Iowa owned by Dale Swanson who was a fuel injection specialist working with Vince Piggins and Smokey Yunick in 1957. Dale's son still runs Swanson's shop in Harlan and the grandson is or has been involved in Nascar.
