For those who believe that this never happened. Note the Fire Extinguisher, Floor Mats, and Litter Container at the bottom of the build sheet.

Re: Dealer Options Installed at the Factory
I've forgotten what COPO stands for and what it means. Can someone help me out? I seem to remember it was a rarely offered/used and special way to order a car. If so, how DID you get one of these orders through and how rare were they? Just curious...
Thanks!- Top

Re: Dealer Options Installed at the Factory
John, Central Office Production Order, An order generated by GM/Chevrolet Corporate so to speak. Used to fit a car with 'non' standard production options or accesories. There are lots of examples of large scale COPOs (like Yenkos) or small scale copos like this example. Eric #3,182- Top

Re: Dealer Options Installed at the Factory
Central Office Production Order
Althougth this method was used to build some "specials", like the ZL-1 Camaros, the vast majority of COPOs were standard RPO combinstions for internal purposes including employee purchase plan cars.
In that era any retail customer could also order a car for plant delivery, so it makes sense that dealer options would be plant installed for plant deliveries, including COPOs for internal use since they didn't go to Chevrolet dealers.
The plant performed all the normal dealer prep operations for these cars, but they were performed after the cars were driven off the line. St. Louis had a small plant delivery group that performed the retail delivery preparation.
One thing I've never figured out is how many plant deliveries per day, week, or month were performed in that era, but it was fairly popular with customers as they didn't have to pay shipping charges.
The modern equivalent is "museum delivery", however you not only pay the normal shipping charge, but also pay about another 500 bucks for museum delivery.

Jimmy when I ordered my wife's 1978 Silver anniversary Corvette I also asked for the accessory luggage that was offered and added a trailer package option , the luggage came in the Corvette from the factory NCRS people are missing out on many neat things for their Corvette. Many things happened that people say never did!Oh well, many things will never be Recognized in my life time.- Top

Re: Dealer Options Installed at the Factory
The tank sticker you show is very close chronologically to my sticker below and they are dated 3 days apart. Notice the plant was out of red stripe tires on both stickers and white side walls were substituted. Also the RN (revision notice) numbers down at the right hand corner are very close to each other and initialed by the same person. PT

Yes, they do look like part numbers and, curiously, like the sort of part number series that accessory items once used for some items. I can't find any record of them, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Dealer Options Installed at the Factory
ralph,
Looks like the car was for a GM exec named JF Todd. The execs get a company vehicle with the stipulation they purchase one of the vehicles(at the employe price) every few years. Its safe to assume he/she was pretty high on the food chain to get this level of service from the factory.

Re: Dealer Options Installed at the Factory
Patrick,
I can't read your expected date of production or the one Wayne posted. My expected date of production on my tank sticker is 6-16-67, could you post your date. My date received is 4-26-67.
Thanks,

Wayne:
Interesting Corvette Order Copy! Additional lines on a Corvette Order are not that rare. As well as special numbers, orders often have written instructions, names of employees and specific sequence numbers that direct production.
Specialty additions always appear as the last items - at the bottom of COs. This order has interior additions identified with "898" prefixes. Here are some of the other most common addition examples; "02POC 1", "02POC 2", "69632Q", "899908" and "81001--."
02POC 1 & 02POC 2 are export directives. 69632Q is a specialty radio application. 899908 is "8 CYL CONDITIONING." "81001" is always followed by two exception letters that determine the particular procedure for special paint. (For example "8100AA") There are still other additions like "PRIME" and specific production sequence numbers like "SEQ G 05."
Not to be overlooked, this document is kind of unique representing a Dow Smith body. Any place an "02Y" code is listed the same item will be duplicated elsewhere on the order.- Top
