    Battery Removal/Reconditioning

Hi, I am cleaning up/restoring the battery and battery holder area (66 small block, no A/C). I have never taken the battery out.

    - do I have to take the overflow tank off? - do I have to disconnect the hoses and drain any rad fluid? - or is there a trick to taking the battery out without touching anything else?

Any thoughts/details would be much appreciated!

Mario, I also have a 66 with a SB and no a/c. I have taken the battery out two or three times. It does help to remove the expansion tank to get good clearance for the removal of the battery. If you don't want to take the tank out completely, just drain it, remove the two tank straps, disconnect the heater hose and position the tank forward. This way you will only lose about one to two quarts of antifreeze/water. This is a pretty straight forward and easy job. Gary

Mario, I just replaced the battery in my 66 SB last weekend. I disconnected the expansion tank straps then used a bungee cord to hold the tank and hoses over toward the engine. Had to tilt the battery (watch out for battery acid), but was able to get out and new one in with very little trouble.
