I picked up on the tech tip by Arland Dower in the Fall 2006 issue of "The Corvette Restorer" on reducing cabin heat by use of louvered splash shields. In my case a 1967 non-A/C coupe. The argument seemed plausible and I had a pair made up for me. They arrived today. While I cannot try them out as it is mid-winter here in Canada, I look forward to trial runs in the summer of 2007. My thanks to Arland for his advice!

Re: C2 Louvered Splash Shields
Terry,
No, I assumed in that this is an NCRS site and the publication is "The Corvette Restorer" published by NCRS that there would be no problem. If I have erred I would ask the moderators to delete the thread.- Top

Re: C2 Louvered Splash Shields
The policy may have changed, but while I was editor the board felt that The Restorer and The Driveline are benefits of membership, and they did not want non-members to have access to materials the members were paying for. Since this board is open to members and non-members they did not want to post articles from The Restorer here.
The moderators do not have to delete the posting with the story on it -- you can if you wish. The whole thread need not be removed, either. None-the-less those decisions belong to you and the moderators.Terry- Top

Re: C2 Louvered Splash Shields
The cost of trying to useful to NCRS members and non-members alike is this kind of nonsense! Do what you want with my post. Such silliness. I hope the thread stays up long enough to give C2 owners what I thought was good information. Your post makes me question my membership.- Top

Membership is a good thing....
Paul,
1.) Who did your panels? I read the article myself and thought I would try them on my SW.
2.) I have no opinion on the copywrite etc, but from a membership standpoint it is far more valuable then just the TB. I don't think Terry was being critical of you personally so don't take offense. I have always tried to be open minded while reading posts. Often on any disc. board it is hard to determine the true spirit of a post. ( Except the CF those guys are mean SOBs! JK ) It is amazing how much a human relys on tone of voice, body language etc. to get the intention of a person. I myself am a lousy typer so often my posts are filled with many errors. I am sure I have offended many in the last 10 years, but I honestly can not remember ever intending to.
Thank you for the tip on creating those panels. Eric #3,182- Top

Re: Membership is a good thing....
Thanks Eric,
I can't figure out how a reference on an NCRS site to a snap-shot of one part/page of one issue of a NCRS publication available to all us NCRS members by US post on a quarterly basis can be some form of copyright infringement.
Who did the panels? I had some help from Arland. They were done in aluminum. He may point you in the right direction.- Top

re louvered splash shields
Paul,
I too found the article interesting and I have a 66 AC roadster in "Hotlanta".
I bought a pair of repro "seconds" shields on ebay and then it took me qiute a while to find someone who could louver them. A lost art.
They'll be in shortly along with my Thermotec insulation pads under the carpet.
On a 60 deg day the temp in my ac duct is around 90- Top

Re: re louvered splash shields
Randy,
Being in Canada this is not a major issue. But last July the Wife and I came back from a show about 90 miles away on your version of an interstate. Temp was about 90F, speed was about 70mph. The interior temp on the highway was just too much even with the windows open. The Powerglide shift lever was hot, very. So in that sense I offered this tip.....To possibly solve a heat problem. Whatever copyright issues may be involved within your own web site and publications, NCRS people sort them out. I am just concerned with helping people out with your own recommendations.- Top

Re: re louvered splash shields
Paul,
The louvers may help extract heat from the engine compartment. You can get more relief by installing more insulation under the carpet and/or under the floorboard. I installed insulation under the floorboard over the transmission and it helped quite a bit. I know 69 and later had this insulation so I installed it in my 57 and am happy with the results.

Re: re louvered splash shields
Perhaps Terry has gone a little over the top with his question. Certainly a reference to an idea from THE RESTORER and a picture of what a member made up for his own use based on that idea is no form of copyright infringement. Let's lighten up a bit. (By the way, it looks like a good idea - hope it works).- Top
