Re: 62 engine bay color
Tim,
Welcome to the forum!
I believe the correct paint was a fairly low sheen black but I believe not totaly flat. Dupont will likely have a few blacks but the sheen will be affected by the amount of hardener as well as paint code if using 2 part paint. When doing my 59 I experimented with different amounts of hardener as I accidentaly used the wrong paint mixing guide and used too much hardener which resulted in a very shiny finish so had to do it again. I'm sure that some of the more knowledgable guys here will give you a more helpfull answer but I just thought that I would answer to show how the board works.

I use Tuxedo black flattened to an eggshell sheen. You local paint supply should be able to mix some for you. It is hard to beat lacquer for this job. It dries quickly, shoots with almost no overspray that sticks, and goes on very thin, so it does not change the look of parts. This is what the General used, and for good reason.

The DuPont paint jobber in my area had the information that you need. I went in and told him I needed correct paint for engine compartment for a '61 Corvette and he mixed it up on the spot.- Top
