oil pressure gauge "0" for mid-year car

in the latest edition of the 1963-1967 PV test guide on page 20. under oil pressure gauge it states that "the gauge must return to "0" (zero)reading on engine shut down".
now look at your mid-year gauge and see if it is at rest on the first line, indicating 10#, next line 20# etc.... or is the indicator at "0", indicating no pressure as the PV guide implies as i read it. to move to "0" or the first line is the question???? This is for my 63 SWC going to Vegas in the spring for that regional meet. I want to pass the PV test without a hitch. Your input is of great intrest to resolving this.

My two '65's 80lb gauges read 3lb, 2lb; motor off

roughly approximating the angle between the zero scale line; with the next line indicating 20lb. Mind you, there's a parallax effect here. The 3lb, 2lb, figures are viewing directly at the gauge, not from the perspective of the driver seat (head position on the centerline of the steering wheel). This adds another psi at least.

'63 gauges may be more prone to parallax due to angled design of needle.

Re: oil pressure gauge "0" for mid-year car

      I have a 67 0-60# gauge.

The "rest" point "0" is the first bar on the left.
      The next bar = 15#
The center bar is labeled 30#
      The next bar = 45#
The far right bar is labeled 60#

Jim, This is a picture of how my 63's oil gauges look at rest. The Vert is a late July VIN and SW is in the 12Ks. Eric

after rereading your post I think...

I now understand what you are asking. This picture highlights the sweep of the gauge. th "0" is to the left of the "0" line. the 30 is on the 30lb line. Eric

Re: oil pressure gauge "0" for mid-year car

Well, i called the top judge (Mr.Roy Sinor) for his input.
His answer was "the first line to the right of the "0" is the rest point at NO OIL pressure on gauge". The answer doesn't get any better than that. Thanks Roy for clarification to the PV guide and all that read this post.

              Jim,

I agree with Roy. The sweep of the needle is from the far left radial line to the far right radial line. The numerals are only the value of each.
