    63-64 Judging Guide Question; seat frame

    On page 40, "1963 seat frame and track" section of the 3rd edition 63-64 Judging Guide, it states that;

    "THE FRONT OF ALL FOUR SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTERS ARE COVERED WITH A GRAINED PINCH WELT (APROX 2 1/4" LONG) WHICH MATCH INTERIOR COLOR".

    Does this agree with typical original color?

    It also states that;

    "THE SEAT TRACKS ARE EITHER PAINTED BLACK OR PLATED WITH A DARK GREY OXIDE" ??

          The 4th edition says the same thing. My Red/Red '63 convertible has black pinch welt.

            Hi Michael,
            My mid-May Saddle/Saddle Coupe has black pinch welts.
            I'll have to check on the seat frames but I seem to recall that they are black (mixed with a nice rust color finish).

              I thought for 30 years my blue interior had blue pinchwelts. Just popped a couple off, cleaned them, and in good light they are actually black. Sept. car. Dave

                March #10706 and May #15018 - bought as semi-derelicts in 1972 and 1982 - are BLACK.

                  Conclusion....

                  Thanks for all the info. It looks like the black trim would be by far the most likely color for this part with a possible occasional interior matching color, such as in Mike McCagh's red/red car. Could the Judging Manual be revised to state that;

                  THE FRONT OF ALL SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTERS ARE COVERED WITH A GRAINED PINCH WELT (approx 2 1/2" long) THAT IS TYPICALLY BLACK, ALTHOUGH OTHER COLORS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED.

                    Michael, At the Marlborough regional Bill Sangrey pointed out that my 63 was missing the BLACK pinchwelts on the seat tracks. My interior is Red. I have owned the car almost 30 years. I have them in my junk box. BElive they were blackish-not red. Will go and try and find the old originals soon and email you. Thanks, John

                      Thanks John. I can't remember how many 63's I've owned or how many I've seen in the last 40 years but every one had black pinch welt. Certainly possible that some were something other than black though. Mike Mc's car seems to be proof of this.

                          Re: Conclusion....

                          It would appear necessary to add somewhere "in the later part of the '63 model year after______" - and find an original owner who has black.

                            I suspect that this will be deleted 15 seconds aft

                            I post it, but "Why bother?". My submissions for this JG in the last FOURTEEN years and THREE EDITIONS have not garnered so much as a "Thank you. I received your letter and will look into it.". We even have an an Edition where the Chairman stated "We don't know where that revision came from" - not an exact quote, but it conveys the message. If I NEED the quote, it IS on file.

                              Yes, I've been there before too but I have a feeling things may be a bit different this time around. Stay tuned......
