Did any of these come with cloth seats. I am looking at buying this car and the seats have leather bolsters and cloth center. It is a two owner car that 2nd owner bought from Dealers son. I made him mad when I insited that all pace cars had leather seats. Thank You in advance. Curt.

I thought they all had leather too. You sure it's a real pace car and not a 'conversion'? Does it have a 9 series VIN #?- Top

'78 Pace cars had leather or cloth seat centers
I owned #541 and it came with cloth center seats. There was a leather and cloth option. I remember seeing a brand new '78 pace car still with the plastic wrap on the interior and the factory accidentally put a right side cloth trim door panel when the balance of the seats and drivers side interior was from the allover leather package. Whoops! This car was at Bloomington years ago.
My car had the CB option..
One of the best cars I ever had. Put 150,000 miles on it.
It still had the original GT radials on it in this picture..until my wife hit a tall median and blew two of them out. Replacements were ST's if I recall correctly.
I still have the front 3 piece spoiler stuffed away somewhere. As the picture illustrates..those were the days..of youth!

Re: '78 Pace cars had leather or cloth seat center
Sounds right.
Mine had either a casette or eight track as funny as that sounds today. CRS is setting in.
Check the black book..there should be info to help you determine what you are looking at. I have the original owners manual packet for #541 and will check it out.

cassette / 8 track / CB
I can't remember if mine had a casette ( I think so ) or an 8 track..but it had one or the other and had the CB.
Below is a page from the radio manual that came in the owners manual packet showing the am/fm stero/tape & CB option.
I remember all the drama when these cars came out and people fighting over each other to get one.
For years I knew a guy that took delivery of a new one with a broken windshield and refused to have it repaired...to keep it original.
Are we a bunch of crazies or what!

Re: 1978 Pace car.
I have sold several Pace cars with cloth inserts and can assure you they were available. Not my favorite, but they had 'em !Tom Hendricks

Re: '78 Pace cars came with UM2 as base
RPO UM2 (AM/FM 8 track) came with the Z78 Pace Car package and a buyer could upgrade to UP6 (CB) for $170.00
A window sticker for a base Z78 Pace Car would not show a radio option but it is listed on the build sheet since it was a base option as UM2. All my Z78 build sheets show either UM2 or UP6.
The Limited Edition Corvette Dealer Order Guide lists a "stereo tape system w/AM/FM stereo radio" as included with the Limited Edition Corvette Coupe. This was the order form dealers were to use to order a Pace Car in 1978. UP6 was listed as the only radio option available.Tom Russo

Re:I bought it.
This seems to be a really nice cloth interior pace car with amfm cassette from the factory. 37,000 miles with original tires still on. Only thing ever changed was oil and filter. This car is ID#905881 buildt near end of May and it does have UN3 AMFM cassette. This also came with cassette storeage in the glove box. When you open the glove box it has factory installed cassette holders. Leaves no room for the manuals. If I knew how to do pics I could show you. Kind of a unique car. Oh yes the decals are on the car so I can never have it judged. (just kidding, I remember some of that discussion awhile back.) If anyone would like pics Email me and I can send them to you. Thanks again, Curt. Happy Vetting.- Top

Re:9 series vin.
If you are really into rare 78 Pace cars, look for a L82 4 speed, 78 Pace car with Cloth interior. This is the most rare build combination for a 78 Pace Car. I have also seen the few cars equipped like this with little or no miles bring the MOST MONEY!
Personally, I like the cloth inserts. Much more comfortable, far more unique and the cloth seat material wears much better/longer than the crappy GM leather.- Top
