    63-64 Judging Guide Question; H-Top

    In the 3rd edition of the 63-64 Judging Guide, page 25, sect 3B, auxilary hardtop, it states that;

    "WHEN THE HARDTOP IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED, THE LOWER PORTION OF THE BOLT,A BLACK RUBBER WASHER, A METAL CADMIUM OR ZINC PLATED WASHER AND A 7/16" CADMIUM OR ZINC PLATED NUT ARE VISIBLE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE DECK LID".

    If I remember correctly, isn't the rubber washer supposed to be in the instrument panel compartment when the hardtop is installed? I thought the rubber washer was only used under the reinstalled mounting bolt head when the top was removed. Wouldn't this washer be a judged item included in the contents of the I.P. compartment?

    Also, the 1/4"-20 mounting bolt is supposed to have a small rubber tip at the end to prevent scratching the painted surface of the deck lid during removal/installation of the top assy. Should this rubber tip be included in the items to be judged? Thanks.

    Mike,

    I hope you've going to become a key member of the 63-64 TIM&JG revision team based on all the information it sounds like you're trying to get right about the JG.

      Michael -

      You're correct, and the '63-'64 JG is not; the rubber washers are shown in the Miscellaneous Shipping List in UPC 14 (2 per car, with C07), and should be in the bag with the hardtop wrench in the glove box contents if the hardtop is mounted on the car; those washers are intended as a water seal under the hardtop bolt heads when the hardtop is NOT mounted on the car. The C07 A.I.M. sheet that shows the washer even references you to the Miscellaneous Shipping List for them. This is true for all '63-'67 cars with hardtops.

        Gary,

        I believe there is a committee but I'm not sure who is involved. Hopefully, all of the 63-64 owners are taking notes.

          Always amazed me that they stuck those rubber tipped HT bolts in there with that gum drop stuff and meant for you to take them out and use them in the hole. It just dont make sense. I know that the manual states it, but the side bolts make a better use. Also since the head of that bolt was roughly ground off and then plated, not the R head that you see on the replacements, its appearance is not that good either.
