The Vintage Chevy Club of America(VCCA) is currently discussing the pros and cons of putting their classified ads online and i thought i'd pass along the following VCCA thoughts on this matter. One thought being entertained is ads online but it'll be put in a password-protected directory so that only members can see the ads.... and that all members would have access to the ads at the same time. Having this secured would be additional incentive for people to join the club. another idea being kicked around....if the members are tryinmg to sell via the club, then wouldn't it be nice for your add to be shown around the world- free of charge, via the internet.a suggestion has surfaced in VCCA to list all ads online but don't list the owners information--ie, you'd need to be a member in order to contact an owner. another incentive to join the club. and only members can place ads--another incentive to join. all VCCA members would see the ads at the same time on the internet(resolving the mailing delay issue) and they'll make the poster's info available only to VCCA members. all people around the world would see the ads, but not be able to respond(because they can't see the owner info)--another incentive to join the club. mike

Re: online driveline
Mike--
That all is really too sensible, logical, and straightforward. It'll never work. (I have no idea why--just too logical, sensible, etc.) You know, we don't exactly have to reinvent the wheel here at NRS to accomplish that.- Top

Re: online driveline
Another thought--I occasionally frequent sites on turn of the century baseball cards (early 20th century, not 21st). If advertising revenues are the issue with not discontinuing the driveline, that is easily overcome with the use of online ads--and it seems to me that the postal savings would help recoup that potential revenue loss as well.- Top

Re: online driveline
I could imagine a setup where ads are only postable by members, directly viewable by all members and viewable after two weeks (if not already deleted by the poster because it is sold) by non-members.

Re: online driveline
Hey with the recent rebuke on bashing the hard working volunteers don't even get started on this. Last comment from the board was they were looking at it but because such a small minority use this forum it was not likley.

Re: there may be a small number who USE this
I'm sure they use some type of site meter to monitor how many individuals view this site.
Then again, I probably count for several as I have 2 computers at home, a couple at work, and the hospital is filled with them.

Perhaps more members would use it if the classifieds were here. Rich- Top

How thrid class mail is handled
At one time I worked in a Post Office and I have seen in town mail stacked as high as the windows about four foot and thirty foot long waiting to be sorted and delivered. The carriers were payed by the hour and until the postmaster put on more help or the first class mail slowed down it sat their. This did not happen on rural routes as they were payed by the job so they took out all the mail every day. In town the mail person had a time to leave and start the route and took what third class he had time to sort before that deadline. When he got back to the post office he sorted third class till time to go home.
The real bad part is when some first class got mixed into the wall of thrid class for a few weeks. This may explain why thrid class delevery of your Driveline is so spread out.

Re: Great concept Mike
Also, members could be accountable to police they're own ads they would only be able to place ONE ad and ONE ad only that would drop off the edge after a month. That way dead ads wouldn't pile up on the board.
It should be view only for eveyone but placement of ads by members only.
