    '63 Headlight Warning Light

Would like to know when the small warning light on the dash should be on. Mine was not connected when I got the car and would like to get it working Thanks Roger

I believe the light comes on when the doors don't close fully and the switch is OFF. Also if the hdlt. door is open, with the overide switch pulled, and the lights are turned OFF.

Bob Thanks for the answer but the power supply for this light comes from the light switch and the lights have to be on before the dash light comes on according to the wiring diagrams in my three books. My assumption was that it would come on if the doors were closed and the lights were still on but the micro-switch that I received from a Corvette supply place is mormally open which means that it comes on when the lights are on and the doors are open which to me does not make sense. Is this correct or do I neet a mornally closed micro-switch? Regards Roger

On my 63...the light comes on if you pull the light switch out and the doors are closed.

Larry is right. The warning light comes on when the headlight switch is pulled out but the buckets are not open. (It's to let you know you're radiator is well lit but no one in front of you can see your car.) When operating properly, the red warning light comes on and then blinks fast after you a minute or so to get your attention.

The red light in the cluster comes on when the head lights are turned on and the headlight doors are closed. At first it is a steady light but then it blinks.

Roger --- The switch should be normally closed (ie. the plunger NOT pushed in). Therefore it will activate the dash warning light if the headlight bucket is in the CLOSED or NOT FULLY OPEN position.

Thanks all for the help, now all I have to figure out is why they sent me the wrong micro-switches. Regards Roger

Agree with David, but will add that the "lights" warning on the dash will illuminate or blink until BOTH headlight buckets are rotated to the FULL OPEN position. When both buckets activate their respective switch at full open (forgot if it's normally open or normally closed), the IP warning light will go out.

Re: Headlight Warning Light - Same for '64?

Does the warning switch for '64s work the same way? Some prior genious cut &/or removed most of the relevant wiring and I'm trying to piece it together.

My 64 works the same way. When I got my car, my wires were also cut or broken off the mirco switchs. I reattached them and the light now works. When the headlights are turned on, the warning light comes on, then flashes. When the buckets are fully up, it makes the micro switch and the light goes off.
