Okay, I bought brake springs for my 63, got them form Paragon. flat springs. How do I get them on the wheel drums. they measure 31" long, I cannot stretch them to reach appox 38" to close around drum head. What am I doing wrong? Is there a trick? Is there a special tool? Please help. I cannot get these &*(#@^ SPRINGS on.

Try putting together and roll down the drum, believe that's what I have done in the late past. Note sure what the lenght SB.

I cannot get them even close to roll down rgwe drum after putting them together. This seems like its impossible. Any other ideas?

The parts book calls out 3694290 with a free length of 32 3/4".

How long are yours? Are they square wire or round wire?

I also recall rolling them off and on with no problem, other than having to pry part of the spring over the lip to roll them off. Then just rolled them on.

the ones I have are appox that length, but perhaps they are wound too tight, or not made right- beause I can maybe pull them to 34-35 inches, the drum is appox 38" around. I guess I will have to send them back find a pair elsewhere. these cannot be rolled over the drum. Paragon screwed me again.

Joe, just going from memory, which is bad on the springs. But as I recall the rear springs are shorter than the front springs. Did they send you springs for the rear drums?

It goes easier with 2 people and 2 very large screwdrivers or pry bars. Hook the spring together and have your helper hold it in the groove on one side. Use the screwdrivers to start prying and stretching the spring from each side forcing it over the drum. It takes some doing and a lot of 4-letter words, but it will go on.
