    '68 Marking on Fiberglass

I was routing the wiring to the rear of my early '68 and noticed two markings on the under side of the fiberglass. The first was unfer the rear deck to the passenger side of the gas door opening, not noticeable with tank installed is the #3977863 writing in a black marker; the second is the #425 on the back passenger side of the rear storage section, again not noticeable with gas tank installed. Either one of these numbers are close to the VIN for this Corvette.

    Dennis,
The #425 is the body build number assigned to the car when it is in the body shop before it got a VIN tag. The same number (one hopes) is on the passenger side toe board behind the white plastic heat shield. There is much much more in the archives about body build numbers.
FWIW: Behind the driver's side white plastic heat shield will be body options such as PB, AC, and UA9 if your car is so equipped. Your car may be too early for UA9, but that is another story.
I hope others can identify the other number for you.
    Terry

That other number, 3977863, is the part number for the rear deck panel. I suspect that marking was made at the fiberglass plant (Division of North American Rockwell) before being shipped to St. Louis.
