    1967 keys

    Happy New Year to All!

I've got two sets of keys that came with my '67 when I bought it. Both sets are keyed the same but the key shape is different. One set has a rectangular and oval key with "GM" in a large square with "Mark of Excellence" at the bottom of this square. The rectangular key is stamped "A" and the oval key is stamped "B". These keys are quite long.

The second set of keys are short and they look more like keys I've seen advertised for sale as being appropriate for '65 or '66 corvettes. One is round and one is shaped like an octagon (eight sides). The round key is stamped "B" and the octagonal shaped key is stamped "A". Are either of these sets of keys correct for this model year? Thank you for any and all responses.

    Joe

        Agree...

1967 was the first year of expanded encoding (5 vs. 4 tumbler cuts + keyway coding) and the keys used for '67 and '68 are unique. They have the same general appearance as '65-66 in terms of length and head but bear the keyway encoding sequence just below the head (A, B, C, D....). Starting in '69 the 'new' head style came on line (large rectangular head for ignition) and these are downward compatible with the '67-68 versions in terms of functionality.

          The backside

And here's the backside. Notice the numbers stamped into the cutouts. They tie to numbers printed in the "Corvette Order shipping record" (a different piece of documentation from the tank sticker).

            Mark,

As Jack says, the keys in your photos are correct for '67. The other keys you have are the A & B keys for 1971, 1975 & 1979, which will work for '67, but are not correct in terms of judging.

              Gary,

The original post was not mine. Both pictures you see post by me are the SAME set of keys. And both are original 67 keys.
