      Ronnie-----

Are you talking about the underhood actuator valve or the rear-of-tach-mounted solenoid valve?

If you're talking about the actuator valve, it's still available from GM under GM #5638317. It still look pretty much like the original valves except that the top is zinc plated without irridite (gold).

If you're talking about the solenoid valve, GM #5638276, it's long-since GM-discontinued. Recently, I heard that this valve was being reproduced but I've yet to see any confirmation of that or advertisements for the piece.

            Ronnie-----

The valve pictured in the eBay item is the vacuum RELAY valve. This same part was used for the windshield wiper door as well as for the headlamp actuators (separate valves for each system, though). In PRODUCTION, the valve was GM #5638427. In SERVICE it was known as GM #5638317. The same valves were used for 1968 through 1982. While there are some relatively minor differences in the valves over the years, one of which I described previously, they are substantially the same part. I can't imagine how the one you removed would appear substantially different from the one seen in the eBay item or the valve still available from GM.

If 68 and 69 are identical then I have a service part that is quiet a bit different. I was led to beleive that this may have been a one year only. The car is a 400 hp 4 speed. I will back up and regroup. thanks for your help.

There are two relays currently available, the one on ebay, which is made offshore, and the one that your friendly Chevrolet dealer sells. Quite a few dollars difference. Cannot speak for the quality of the repro

Until fairly recently when the "reproductions" of the actuator relay valve appeared on the market, the only piece that I know of that was available in SERVICE was the GM #5638317. It was available in 1968 and it's still available today. It has changed in minor ways, but, as I mentioned, it's substantially the same as always. How is yours different? Can you post a photo of it?

I have several 69's that are correct. The one on my 68 is about 1.25" dia and 1.5" long. I will try to scan and email you. i think it must be one some one put on that just worked. It is very different.

GM #5638276 is what i anm looking for, the vacuum relay on the 68 is mounted in adifferent place than was in 69. I think I have confused everyone as I didn't realize the ebay item was the vacuum relay. Sorry for the confusion.

                          Ronnie,
That part is the SOLENOID, which mounts to the back of the tachometer -- as, is shown in one of the photos in the link. It converts the electrical signal from the wiper switch to a vacuum signal to open the door.
The vacuum RELAY, shown in the earlier ebay link, mounts in the engine compartment (either next to the brake master cylinder or in the passenger fender well behind the wheel house). It changes a small vacuum signal to a larger vacuum supply.

And, be thankful that it's now on the market. The original GM piece was discontinued without supercession in May, 1997. Folks needing the solenoid to have a functioning system were stuck with looking for NOS or buying used. The NOS supply available for sale was dwindling and the prices were very high. With a used one, how do you know how much life it has remaining?
