Try the local library, in the reference section. One such book would be "Chevrolet by the Numbers" by Alan Colvin. There are some pretty good pictures in his book and there are probably others as well. What is it you are looking for?

Re: Powerglide transmission tailshaft
For what it is worth, I am on a mission to at least convert my 59 corvette to the powerglide transmission. At least until the right deal comes along with a numbers corvette transmission. I had to resort to the after market shifter which is better than I have now. I have a cast iron transmission which is going into the vette. It has the long tailshaft and with a little work it will funtion fine. This is why I would like to see the tail shaft. I would like to get the appearance as close as possible. Sorry if I offended any body at all- Top

I don't think anyone got offended. I was just trying to give you a solution to your problem. I use the library all the time as I don't have the room or the money for all the books that I find useful.

Re: Powerglide transmission tailshaft
Thank Terry I appreciate that very much. I have corvette by the numbers and I have checked out the books in the library but have not found an exact picture of an actual tailshaft. I know that the bosses are cast into the tailshaft, but to what angle I am not sure of. Do you by chance know if Roy's video shows this? Thanks John- Top

Re: Powerglide transmission tailshaft John
If you do find the right Corvette tail shaft , it ant going to work on your LONG tail shalt Trans. You'll have to make up some type of mounting bracket to use the original shifter. Are you thinking you can use the Corvette tail shaft??- Top

Re: Powerglide transmission tailshaft John
Actually no ,Roy,I am going to use the tailshaft that I have. I've got a welder that says that he can weld cast. I would like to have it look as original as possible. According to Colvin all the casings were the same but the tailshaft was different. This is what I need to know. Is the car tailshaft longer than the standard corvette tailshaft, or a different length.I know that the earlier powerglide transmissions had a longer taishaft and the later tailshafts were shorter. According to the gentleman that's been trying to sale his corvette casing forever, the numbers on the casings are the same. I feel honered that you helped with the answer. You seem to be the guru of powerglides. Thank you very much! John- Top
