    electric choke 12v feed

I need to locate a 12v source for the elecric choke on my new replacement Holley carb. The instructions that came with the carb state that the coil terminal is not to be used for 12v source. Does anyone know if I can supply the 12v needed from the feed side of the coil resistor?

The switched side of the ballast resistor should be used to feed the choke heater.

      Don,

Your intuition is correct. You can use the feed side to the coil resistor as that is a 12v switched source. The reason the instructions say not to connect it at the coil point is that voltage is reduced by the resistor and may not satisfactorily operate the element in the choke.

By the feed side I mean the side of the ballast resistor fed from the ignition switch.

I don't know the current load for the choke heater, but be careful that you don't exceed the current capability of the ignition switch and cause premature failure. You may need a relay for current isolation.

I read somewhere that the heater is about 24 watts, or 2 amps; shouldn't need an auxiliary relay, the ignition switch can handle that.

I put and electric choke on my 75.I just tapped into the battery side connection of the distributor and it works great.
