Re: c1 history and paint
With 6500 redline had to be either solid lifters with 2x4, or with FI. Many articles are written about body /engine compartment configurations that indicate fuelie vs. 2x4--easiest to start with is left inner fender and presence of holes/brackets for FI air cleaner and absence of washer system brackets/holes (if so equipped)- Top

Rich
According to the NCRS spec guide there were 1851 Fawn cars, the 6500 red line tach would be either a 340hp or a fueler. There are several ways to tell if it was a fueler car but more informed people than I will have answer that one for you.

Re: c1 history and paint
I too had a solid lifter tach on my '61, but the engine was long gone. When I pulled my dash, I found an ink stamp date on the back of my tachometer. The date stamp was in the correct range for the build date of the car. Therefore, I felt certain it was a 270 HP car since it did not have any of the fuelie attributes.- Top
