Hi, few questions....1) Anyone know of someone that retores quadrajets that might have a few extra parts available. I am looking for the bracket that holds the little vacuum pod for the choke pull-off. 2) What is the rule of thumb on the vacuum pod. I recall that depending on the manufacturer the pod was either all plastic or steel with a plastic back. Some direction would be apprciated. Thanks in advance, Terry

Believe it or not, the bracket of which you inquire was unique to 1968 Corvettes with L-36 and 1967 Chevrolet passenger cars with Q-Jet and big block. It was discontinued in May, 1978.
My belief is that all of the 68-69 Q-Jet choke unloader vacuum controls were all plastic. However, I'm not absolutely sure this was the case for all applications. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I'm not sure what the "stamped-in" part number is on the bracket. The bracket was never available as a separate part; it was sold only as an assembly with the vacuum control. The vacuum control, however, was the same for all 1968 Corvette Q-Jet applications and was available separately. So, the part number for the bracket + vacuum control is unlikely to be the one stamped on the original bracket. You'll have to get that information off of another known-original 1968 L-36.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 68 390hp 4speed quadrajet parts??
I think I found one but it is attached the rest of the carb. You know how that goes. I would have to buy the carb to get the thing. The one I have is new replacement delco. It does have a symbol on the back of it. The one I found is obveously original looking and it has that part number stamped into it. I will have to look closely at the number. All I have is a picture. The bracket part number MIGHT be a number that's "closely related" to the part number for the assembly. Please advise when you find out the stamped-in number. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

if the bracket came as part of the pulloff assy
the number stamped on the bracket was the whole part assy number. i have found that true on most all the orignal GM pull offs i have used. some of the after market ones had GM part numbers stamped on them so i would guess they were GM manufactured.- Top

Re: 68 390hp 4speed quadrajet parts??
Looks like the thread has identified the 'vacuum pod' component you refer to is actually the carb's choke pull-off assy. OK, now I'm swinging on the same vine!
Many have commented on the bracket portion of your question, but I don't see comment(s) on the portion of your question that addressed the pull off's physical construction. Yes, there were two versions of this assy; one being all metal and the other being half metal/half plastic.
The JG books don't elaborate on this difference, but this is what I've observed from years of walking scrap yards... The construction difference 'seems' to follow carb mfgr source. I almost exclusively see the all metal version of the pull off on Rochester produced QJets and the half metal/half plastic version on Carter produced QJets.
Now, I can't say that's a universal truth because after +30 years of use, who's to say that this/that carb component is actually original to a carb on a scrap yard vehicle? But, another observation is the hybrid material pull off assy's seemed to be more prone to leaking with vac leaks appearing along the interface where the metal rear case crimped to the plastic front case....- Top
