    C2 tank sticker

Is it coincidence that the handwritten number on the tank sticker from my '67 roadster matches the last three numbers of the VIN for this vehicle? I found this rather odd since I was under the impression that these numbers were simply job numbers and held no other significance. Has anyone else has encountered a similar circumstance?

I would guess it is just a very unusual coincidence and a pretty cool one to have

Unless of course the tank sticker is an eBay special "repo'd original aged to specifications tank sticker" and made to look original and who ever made it thought the handwritten number should match the last few digits of the vin

      Bob,

Thank you for your input but the tank sticker is most definitely original to the car. If you've ever removed a tank from a car that has not been touched for almost forty years, you know what I mean. I've talked to all owners back to the second one (am working on tracking down #1)and each confirmed the low mileage and originality of this car. I looked for about four years for an original documented '67 roadster before finally coming across this one. I would not have bought it if it had an "Ebay special" sticker as so many of the other cars I looked at did. It is a rather cool coincidence, though.

I took my tank sticker off my self so I'm 100% sure it's real, it's one # lower than my vin.

Excellent! May be one of one!!! It must be comforting to have spoken with prior owners considering what is happening with our hobby.

Sounds like you have a really nice car.

            Re: C2 tank sticker

I've seen many original tank stickers. Typically the penciled number is right on or 1 or 2 digits ahead of the VIN#. The penciled number never exceeds 500 so if your VIN# happens to end with 789, then the penciled number would be 289 or 288 or 287. If you VIN# ended with 345 you'd see 345 or 344 or 343.

On another number subject... if you pulled the tank down you should have noticed a number in grease pencil on the vertical bulkhead next to the tank. This same number also appears on the passenger foot rest area, engine side of the firewall, and on each door beneath the door skin. It was also on the hood but was painted over during blackout. This was a number assigned in the body shop. It has no relationship to the VIN#.

I have seen several and the vin number ending is on all of them. I have a 70 with the last two digits at the top and two 69's with the last three digits penciled on the top and the last four digits penciled on the bottom.
