I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with ordering parts from Crane Corvette Supply in San Diego. They have a convertible top and reconditioned frame available for my 1971. Just curious as to reliability etc. Thanks in advance for any info. much appreciated.

Re: crane corvette supply
Hi Dan:
Although I live in Florida I have purchased from David Crane, I have had both ends of the spectrum, good deals and not so good. I purchased a console plate from him at Carlisle for 1 / 3 what he asks for the item normally, (last day of show, maybe he didn't fair well. He is big enough, ( appears to be ) and has purchased, ( or has access to ), some original tooling. Try him once on some small item and see what you think, at times he seems to be related to Dr. Rebuild. This is my opinion and does not reflect the opinion of the NCRS or their members, ( doncha love it ).

Re: crane corvette supply
Dan------
I've never actually purchased anything from Crane's. However, I've spoken to him many times at Bloomington and Pomona. David Crane is one of the "real characters" of the Corvette business, but he has been involved in it for quite a few years so he must be doing something right. David has some REAL manufacturing background, too, and I believe that his "roots" are mid-western. When he came to California, though, he definitely adopted the lifestyle as you can see by perusing his website.
Anyway, David can be a very good source for obscure Corvette parts. In fact, his inventory might amaze you. However, just like all sources for obscure Corvette parts, some might consider him to be quite proud of his parts. Personally, I consider him to be reliable and, if I needed something that he had and I could negotiate an acceptable price, I would not hesitate to purchase from him.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Jerry, your last line was a good caveat; over the weekend, my wise, old, country barber told me, "if we didn't have any lawyers, we wouldn't need any. Patrick #33001.- Top

Re: crane corvette supply
Be careful Jerry, Dr. Rebuild is very sensitive and any statement that might jade his reputation or tend to make him appear any worse than he is might be cause for a broken leg. Actually, I've got it backwards maybe. Crane's reputation should not be questioned in relation to Dr. Rebuild. The both of them are upstanding, reputable, honest and good gentlemen. Trade with confidence, relax, sit back, and enjoy whatever happens.

Re: crane corvette supply
Dan,
I recently purchased a 1967 3.90 BB rear end from him. The price was good, the service good and the rear end seems to be in excellent condition. I have installed it and it runs great with no gear noise.
He usually answers the phone himself and he loves to talk.

Re: crane corvette supply
I called Mr. Crane about a front center grill for my '74 - a '74-only part. He said that he had one, and we made a deal. When the grill arrived, it was for a 71 or 72. I called him, and returned it. It took him about two weeks to discover that he didn't actually have a '74 grill at all, but could get an NOS one, and that it would be twice what the used one was. I politely declined, and received a full refund, although I had to twist his arm to get him to refund the return postage to me as well. Seems like a nice guy, just a little in his own world. My only advice would be for you to be persistent with him if their is a problem or question. Jeff
