Saw these on ebay.... do these appear original to you? The stamping to the left of the valve hole does not look correct???,,, also does anyone know, when GM started using bar codes? Was it really 35 yrs ago??
ebay #180073624418 thanks
The ad says the date code is K1976(hole)27 Or more easily read: K 1 97 6 (hole) 27.
My take is that date is June 27, 1997
Given that date the question about bar codes ought to be moot.
Terry,,,,, if the stamping on the left of the valve hole is correct then I agree with your conclusion about bar coding.... the question I'm raising is from all the AZ wheels I've looked at, that type of stamping appears different,,,, which then leads me to the tags on the wheels with the bar code. If, as the seller states, these wheels have been on the shelf for 34 yrs.... would they have bar coded tags.... I'm not sure but I don't believe bar codes were used by GM in the early 70's, but I'm not sure.
So to the point,,,, from those far more experienced than me.... do those code stamps look correct?.... and were bar codes used then? Thanks again to Terry and others more informed than me....
I have to confess to not looking at the wheels themselves -- and still haven't. I based my statement about the date from the seller's text. If he reported the date stamp correctly, they are wheels produced in 1997. In that case, I strongly doubt they have been on the shelf or anywhere else for 34 years, and the bar codes would be consistent with a date of manufacture in the last decade.
