Has a/c and delux saddle interior. It is a very origional car and belongs to the origional owner!! But it is in very bad shape an need a full frame off restoration!!!! Any ideas. also has the pop and owners manuel and a few other bits of documentation!!! How much$$$$$ Thad #32187

Re: How much should i pay?

Thad, Sounds like a real good choice. 70's cars are, as you know, rare. Especially the BB convert's. I appraise corvettes, and I did one that was in #1-#2 condition last month.I appraised it for $30-$32K. Without seeing the car its impossible to do you a really accurate deal. I love those cars, and I probably fuge a bit on them. So here's the deal; A #1, perfect original or body off restored car=$35k.+. #2=$30K.+. #3(good)=$27k.+. #4(average driver)$18k-$22k. #5(not clean, needs work)$15-$18k. #6(junk,but 'all' there)$10k-$14k These cars are the big gainers in the last few years and I'm sure will continue value increases above average in the future.

Another take on Bob's scenario is to start with the top price for a "perfect" car, and deduct the cost of the things the car you are looking at would need. In reality, the cost to replace a "fair" interior is the same as the cost of replacing a "poor" interior, so it intends on what you plan on doing with the car. If the car actually needs a full body off, you can easily get 25-35K tied up in it and be upside down in no time. The real question is what does it mean to you to have the car in the condition you want it in, compared to the price of walking out and buying a equivalent piece. That's something only you can answer.

        Bob,

How much of a difference in price is there for a '71 vs. '70 (I know that the '70 is the year to have because of the high horse)? I just picked up a '71 that is similar and was wondering of it potential value.

          Re: 70 or 71????

Mike, I owned a 71 LT-1 myself. I love them all! The 70 is worth a bit more because of the short production year and the higher HP. But,,, the 71 has all the leaded gas problems solved and is a bit more refined. It's a toss up. Your choice. I would probably expect to pay a couple of thousand more for the 70 ( If they are the same condition)
