Opinions neededon new Corvette Coupe vs. new ZO-6.

I'm hoping this is a fair question to be asking on this board. If not I will expect to be deleted. From those who have driven/and or owned both the new C6 and ZO6 I would like to know if you felt there is $20k more value in the ZO6? Also if you've had experience with a C5 is the C6 a big improvement?

i have owned 97,99 and 02 C-5 and each one was a improvement over the last one BUT my C-6 is a BIG improvement over the C-5s. i do not own a C-6 ZO-6 yet but have ridden in them and they are a wild machine. i owned new 65 and 66 BB corvettes and the ZO-6 will out preform them and still get 28 MPG not 8 MPG like my BB

They are rockets the only problem is next year will be faster and so on.

If you drive c6 ZO6 you wil never want to go back... They are AWESOME..

I agree the Z06 is something else, guess it depends on whether you want to look good or look good going real fast. As for being worth $20k more, that is something only you can decide for yourself. I sure as he__ wouldn't spend $20k on someone else's advice. If you are serious about buying one I'm sure you will be able to find a dealer who will let you ride/drive both and make up your own mind. That much power is not for everyone.

You won`t regret the C6 which ever you get. I have an 2007 standard 3LT Automatic coupe and love it. I do envy the Z06 guys a little but for my uses for the car it more than I need. Don`t think they are a slouch. I have driven mine fast enough to scare myself. Good Luck and Enjoy it!

I have a 2003 ZO6. I can't bring myself to spend the $ for a new ZO6, so I thought I'd buy a C6 coupe. After I drove one, I thought it was very nice, but it's no ZO6, not even a C5 ZO6. My order would be C6 ZO6 followed by C5 ZO6 followed by a C6.

I still like the C5 body style better. But the C6 ZO6 is a beast.

I own '03 conv. & a '06Z06. The Z06 is so much more quieter than the conv. it's unbelievable maybe because conv. versus coupe. I really like the Z06 but the C-5 body style is going to be popular for a long time.But as Rich said 505 HP gets it done.

You did not state whether you are comparing new to used, etc. I owned a 2005 C6 while waiting for my C6 Z06. The C6 was a much better car in buid quality and ride than the previous Z06's I had owned (2002 and 2004) but did not compare in performance or feel.

The LMB C6 Z06 (#509) was a totally different car than the other two. The C6 Z06 rode as well or better than the 2005 and outperformed the C5 Z06 hands down.

My suggestion to anyone is to drive both and compare. If you want the Z06 then buy a garage queen from someone. 2006 Z06's with low miles will hit $60k or below this spring. You can wait for the 07's to drop if you want the better warranty factory. The new LS3 base motor in 08 should have some effect on resale prices.

I sold mine at the height of the frenzy in late 2006 for msrp with 5,000 miles. I could re-buy the same car for $61,000 right now with 7,000 miles. I only sold because I am second in line for the Blue Devil in 09.

The Blue Devil is the new Corvette Super Sport that GM is currently working on and scheduled for release in 2009. Think beefed up ZO6 with a new V8 6.2L LS9 DOHC supercharged engine which will deliver 600, 650 or 700+ HP depending on who you talk to. My guess is 600HP. Test mules have been spotted all over Michigan. Pics show a ZO6 with a ridiculously high hood scoop attached without care. Of course that is just the mule. This could be the L88 of the next generation. Let the hype begin.

i understand it is a 6.2 liter pushrod engine

the whole front end of a C-6 would have to be raised to get a DOHC engine under the hood.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will .....

wait and see what this LS3 engine will be like. I don't need the fastest ride on the street. I've owned a crotch rocket motorcycle and my son has a Ford GT so I know what fast is like and the way new cars depreciate I think that the additional $20K for a ZO6 may not be the route for me. A friend of mine just got a new ZO6 and his wife has a C6 so this spring when the cars come out I'm sure he will give me a demo in both.
